Daily Meditation: Become Your Own Light

We all need help maintaining our personal spiritual practice. We hope that these Daily Meditations, prayers and mindful awareness exercises can be part of bringing spirituality alive in your life.

Today’s meditation features a poem by 17-year-old poet Swastika Jajoo, shared with The Huffington Post. Jajoo’s poem reminds us of the beautiful and fleeting moments of life, captured in a smile or a flower petal, that can reveal to us the eternal nature of the soul.

light

Scattered rosebuds along lanes
paved with sliced memories,
each a reflection
within a reflection, glistening
against waters
of the year gone by-

the making, unmaking
and remaking
of a phenomenon
that is man himself.

I wish
that you never run out of
people to thank,
moments to smile at
and ink
to give wings
to your dreams
within a dream.

I wish you both
flowers in full bloom
and remnants
of withered petals

for the fragrance
is neither in form,
nor in shape, but
in being and believing.

I wish you colour
in all its panoramic might
but I also wish you
the wisdom
to appreciate
all that is black and white.

I wish for you
to become
your own light

for the sun sets
and the stars fade
but the soul always
remains.
