Orlando City continues MLS losing struggles, Lose 3-0 to New England

Lion's sloppy play gives Revs opportunities.

ORLANDO, FL – Orlando City SC (8-10-6 30 pts) were defeated by the New England Revolution (7-7-9 30 pts.) easily with a 3-0 drubbing on Saturday night at Exploria Stadium.

The Revolution, who have not had a game in with win column since June, took advantage of Orlando’s sloppy play to get scores.

Orlando, who have had their own struggles in the MSL, dispute destroying NYCFC  5-1 in the Lamar Hun Us Open Cup last week, Orlando continued to struggle in the box, where they had a lot of time with the ball in the NE box, but were penned in, making it almost impossible to get a good shot on goal.

For the first 20 minutes o the goal, the Revs charged when Orlando tried to reset drives, pushing their defenders deeper into the defensive side when they tried to switch sides of attack.

New England started the scoring in the 20th minute, when the Orlando defense seemed to fall asleep, leaving an opening for Matt Pollster to send one in for the first score.

New England pulled back their defense, taking away space from the Orlando offense, with skilled ball handlers like Fecund Torres, Junior Urso, and Alexandre Pato with little room to work.

Going into the second half, The Revs scored again.

Orlando’s Jao Moutinho tries to clear a ball after a New England attempt in the box, but Wilfred Kaptoum was left unmarked and was able to send a deflection in for the Revs second goal of the night.

The final score of the match came in the 75th minute, when Henry Kessler simply beats everyone to the ball off of a corker kick, and sends It for the final goal of the match.

The numbers tell the tale of the game.

Orlando had 8 shots on goal in the first half, but only two on target. The Lions lead slightly on poseeion for the match, 53-48%. For the game total in shots, Orlando too 18 shots, but only two are on gaol.

The Lions have not given up a goal in their last three matches, but gave up three tonight.

Orlando Coach Oscar Pareyja blamed the game on fatigue, since the boys in purple have seen a lot of action of the last few weeks. Oscar spoke of a need for energy in the pitch as his players were just drained by the frequency of games lately.

Orlando managed to bring in new players Ivan Anulo and Nicholas Cioacchini late in the second half for some field action.

Orlando will be counting on them to bring some much needed energy to the Lions for the rest of the season as they push to return to the playoffs
