Orlando is stretching themselves as the tournament lands right at the beginning of the MLS season, meaning multiple games per week for the squad. Orlando was also coming off of a 5-0 drubbing against Lionel Messi and his Inter Miami team. Orlando opened the game with high energy, challenging every ball and attacking for opportunities on both sides of the pitch. Tigres, however, proved their championship strength with quality play that did not make things easy for the Lions.

But at the end of the game, the teams battled to a draw. The teams only managed 4 shots on target, with Orlando taking a total of 10 shots, and Tigres shooting eight. The scoresheet is similar to the match between the teams in last year’s tournament.

“Very hard game for both teams. I think the competitiveness was shown on the field from the first minute to the end, with two teams that gave their all and intended to win the game. There were points in the second half where we thought we could have won the game. We fought and we played well. The most remarkable thing for me was the personality of the team throughout the match and overcoming the difficult result in Miami that we had over the weekend. The personality and the compromise of our athletes were remarkable. I am very proud of them. It was a great response and put the team back on the surface and we are ready to keep going.”

Pedro Gallese made his 125th game appearance with this match. The Lions will next host Minnesota United FC at INTER&Co Stadium this Saturday, March 9. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
