'The Brady Bunch' housekeeper dies at 88

(VIA CNN) She was a lady that had the wittiest of one-liners and the kindest of hearts. She was a character all generations could never forget, whether you watched her during its original airing or on syndication on various cable channels. She was American television legend Ann B. Davis, also known as Alice Nelson, the beloved housekeeper from “The Brady Bunch”. On Sunday June 1st, she suffered from subdural hematoma after hitting her head in a fall. She never regained consciousness according to Bishop William Frey, a close friend of Davis, and stated that she had passed at a hospital in San Antonio, Texas.

Actress Carol Henderson, who played the doting mother Carol Brady, was deeply saddened when she heard the news on Sunday. In a Facebook post later that day, she stated “I am so shocked and sad to learn that my dear friend and colleague, Ann B. Davis, died today. I spoke with her a couple months ago and she was doing great!” No other cast members have commented on the loss at this time.

Although Davis will always be remembered as Alice, she also was on the 1950s sitcom ‘The Bob Cummings Show’ as Charmaine ‘Schultzy’ Schultz. She won two Emmys, received two nominations for best supporting actress, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960 for her role in the show. She also played various roles in films and theater, but Davis always loved being on the small screen and her fans adored her there as well. Frey said that fans would often tell her that they felt like they were raised by her character Alice. “Look at how well you turned out,” she would say, according to Frey.

Indeed, we all turned out well, thanks to Alice.
