Florida Cup Match 3: PSV Eindhoven Involved on Late Scoring Match Again!

It’s Match 3 of the 2018 Florida Cup and twice Dutch club PSV Eindhoven is involved in a dramatic stoppage time ending. In match 1, Brazilian super club Corinthians was up 1-o when PSV scored a last minute goal to end the match in a draw. Corinthians won the match in penalty kicks 5-4.

Match 3 was the exact opposite. PSV dominated the match and took a 1-0 lead on Dutch side’s Sam Lammers’ first-half goal at Spectrum Stadium on the University of Central Florida campus. The ending mirrored Match one when Fluminense’s Robinho scored deep in injury time.

PSV was the better team against a Brazilian side but again had to settle for a draw in regulation. The Dutch side held a 14-4 advantage in shot attempts but couldn’t put the game away when it counted.

In the 41st minute as Lammers took the ball down the left side of the box, faked left and right to send two defenders sliding on the ground, then blasted a curling shot just inside the far post to make it 1-0. It was Lammers’ second goal of the tournament.

Fluminense came out of the locker room with a bit more spirit, taking the attack to PSV in the opening minutes of the second period, and getting a couple of early crosses into the box, although there wasn’t any menace in them.

In about the third minute of stoppage time, Fluminense equalized out of nowhere. Playing on with a PSV man down and no whistle, the Brazilian side ended up with a break down the left side. Robinho cut toward the middle and beat Eloy Room in exactly the same spot Lammers had scored.

The Match ended -1,in regulation. PSV took the point for the match with a 5-4 score in penalty kicks.
