Orlando Pride extends unbeaten streak to 5 thanks to Angel City own goal.

2-2 win takes to 5 straight without a loss.

ORLANDO, FL -The Orlando Pride (3-5-5 13 pts) pulled out a 2-2 draw against Angel City FC (5-5-2 12pts) at Exploria Stadium in frot of over 4,900 fans.

The game tying goal was an own goal put in by Angel City’s Paige Nelson when a Kerry Abello cross caught her leg and went into the gaol past Didi Harcic.

Angel City came into the match pushing hard an aggressively attacking players from multiple directions on defense.

Orlando managed to make the quick pass or challenge to get past them on offense and key players were there to make the need shots at the right time.

Kerry Abello was one of those players, making multiple passes and crosses to give her teammates chances, eve  the

Julia Doyle goal in the 64th minute, Abello was in the box in the box that got the ball open to her for the shot.

Both teams were close in time of possession with only a 5% difference between them.

Orlando took 18 shots, but with the difficulty they had in getting clean looks, only 1 shot was on target. La managed to block 10 of Orlandos chances, making it a busy night for goalkeeper Didi Haracic.

Orlando had 35 touches in the box, compared to La’s 10 but managed only 10 shots out of there. the Pride also fired 23 crosses and only conceding 7 to Angel City.

“I think that was one of our best 90 minute performances so far.” Said forward Kerry Abello “Of course we’d like to leave with more than a draw, but it was a great performance. I thought the substitutes that came in the second half brought us the needed energy for the push in the final team minutes of the match”

Angel City’s first goal came from former Orlando Pride player Ali Riley, who put the ball in from the left side in the 40th minute for the games first goal. Riley did not really celebrate the goal, and prepped to continue playing on. Riley played in 2020-21 for the Pride.

Julie Doyle aforementioned goal was an equalizer for the Pride, matching the score in the 64th minute.

Angel City pushed harder, and in the 72nd minute, took advantage of the Pride’s inability to clear a ball out of the box to score again. Orlando wasn’t able to clear out a corner kick, and Cari Roccaro put it in to take back the lead.

Orlando put a lot of pressure on Angel City for the rest of the match, and the own goal in stoppage time at least gave them the tie to go home with.

the Pride next head to San Diego to fave the Sand Diego wave on August 13th. They return home to Exploria Stadium in August 26th ath7:pmm at Exploria Stadium.
