MLS Report: Toronto vs DC United Postponed Due to Positive Carona Virus Test

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – This morning’s MLS is Back tournament match pitting DC United against Toronto FC was cancelled due to possible positive COVID-19 tests.

MLS released the following statement this morning:

Major League Soccer announced that today’s D.C. United vs. Toronto FC match has been postponed and will be rescheduled. MLS will announce details later today for the rescheduled match.

Under the league’s health and safety protocols, clubs are tested the day before each match. The results of yesterday’s tests for D.C. United and Toronto FC produced an initial unconfirmed positive COVID-19 case for one player and an inconclusive test for another player. Because of the arrival time of the clubs in Orlando, the league’s protocol called for retesting both teams this morning and to await the results of those tests prior to playing the match.

FC Dallas and Nashville SC previously were removed from the tournament due to a high number of COVID-19 cases on both squads.

The match was originally scheduled to be played Friday and was delayed until Sunday due to Toronto’s delayed arrival in Orlando due to potential COVID-19 symptoms reported by a member of the team’s travel delegation. Subsequent testing was required before the team could travel.

TFC landed in Orlando Tuesday and has spent less than seven days in the MLS is Back Tournament bubble.

D.C United arrived in Orlando late July 3 and has been in the bubble for nine days.

Play is scheduled to resume tonight with Sporting KC facing off against Minnesota United FC at 8pm, and Real Salt Lake facing the Colorado Rockies tonight at 10:30 pm.
