San Jose Stuns Vancouver 4-3 at MLS is Back Tournament

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – The San Jose Earthquakes ruined the Vancouver Whitecaps tourney debut with a 4-3 win in stoppage time at the MLS is Back Tournament at Disney World Wednesday night.

She Salinas broke a 3-3 tie late in stoppage time by scoring at the game winning goal. This was a different looking tournament from from first to second half, and overall, the Whitecaps seemed to dominate the match.

Vancouver had 68% possession, and led through most of the match. They took 30 shots compared to San Jose, and had the game managed fr mot of the first half.

Ali Adnan started the scoring off early with a score in the 7th minute. He came down the left flank, drove into the but ad curled a beautiful shot into the net. Later in the half, San Jose lent a hand with an own goal off of Judson.

Vancouver’s Yordy Renya got loose and streaked all the way to the San Jose end. Reyna was facing a one on on with San Jose goalkeeper Daniel Vega. Instead, Reyna Tried to pass to Dajome, but the pass deflected off of Judson into the net.

San Jose was given hope when Maxime Crepeau directed one of San Jose’s many corner kicks into the net in first half stoppage time, ending the half down 2-1.

The Whitecaps scored again in the 59th minute when David Milinkovic stole a poor San Jose pass in their own penalty box and dished off to Dajome for an easy finish, giving them a seemingly solid 3-1 lead.

In the 72nd minute, Jan Jose made it a little closer when Wondolowski headed a deflected ball that popped up high in the air into the net to bring the Quakes to within one point, 3-2.

The Quakes tied the game off of another one of their near record 22 corner kicks in the 81t minute. This time it was Alinas show headed in a corner from Magnus Eriksson,making the score 3-3. The play was electric.

The winner came in 98th minute off of the foot of Salinas, when he charged from close to midfield and slid home a shot from inside the area past Crepeau, giving San Jose the win and three points in a stunning come from behind victory.

Vancouver faces the Seattle Sounders on Sunday, July 19th at 10:30pm EST., while San Jose faces the Chicago Fire on the same night at 8pm EST.
