ORLANDO, FL – The Us Women’s National Soccer Team started off their 2021campaign with a dominant performance, a 4-0 drubbing of the Colombian National Futbol team at Exploria Stadium in Orlando, Fl on Monday.

This friendly was an all Mewis affair, as Samantha Mewis and Kristie Mewis provided all of the scoring for Team USA.

Sam Mewis, the 2020 US Soccer Player of the Year, knocked in goals in the 5th, 33rd minutes. She also added a penalty kick in the 46th minute, yes, 11 second after the second half kick off, off of a foul on Lindsey Horan in the box..

Kristie Mewis added the teams fourth goal in the 86th minute, scoring her second international goal and creating history. The pair becomes the first sisters to score in the same match for the USWNT.

As for Colombia, it was a rough road. The team had not played a game since 2019. They had only 10 days to prepare for the best team in the world.

The USA held Colombia without a shot while putting up 22 of its own.

Colombia goalkeeper Sandra Sepulveda kept things from getting out of control with a series of heroic saves against the relentless American attack.

Team USA dominated, pretty much taking any ball that they wanted in the first half and taking advantage of the open spaces in the Colombian defense.

Catarina Macario makes her Team USA debut in the friendly vs Colombia

The U.S. didn’t waste any time finding the back of the net when Megan Rapinoe teed up Mewis to put the USA on the board in just the fourth minute of play.

The U.S. broke through again in the 33rd minute. Lindsay Horan sent a booming cross to the far post where forward Carli Lloyd headed it back across goal to Mewis, who fired home a close-range header

Head coach Vlatko Andonovski made one change at halftime, bringing on Brazilian forward Catarina Macario for her USWNT debut. The Brazillian got a good tase of time on the pitch, but did not make much of an impact. The crowd in Orlando was thrilled to see her in the Team USA uniform.

For Team USA, it is riding a 33-game unbeaten streak and has scored two or more goals in 29 of those games. They are undefeated in 49 straight games.

Carli Lloyd returned to the U.S. roster for the first time since the 2020 SheBelieves Cup after recovering from a knee injury that kept her out of all the 2020 NWSL action. She had two assists on the goals tonight.

The USA will face Colombia again on Friday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. (ESPN2), once again at Orlando’s Exploria Stadium.
