THE SEARCH IS OVER: ORLANDO MAGIC NAME JAMAHL MOSLEY HEAD COACH

Jamahl Mosely, new Head Coach of the Orlando Magic

ORLANDO: The Orlando Magic have announced that they have hired Jamahl Mosley as their next head coach. He will be the 15th head coach in the team’s history.

Mosley comes to Orlando after spending the previous seven seasons as an assistant coach with the Dallas Mavericks. While on the coaching staff, the Mavericks reached the NBA Playoffs four times. He has also served as the head coach on the Mavericks summer league team that competed in Las Vegas.

“We would like to welcome Jamahl and his family to the Magic family,” said Weltman. “Within the NBA coaching community, Jamahl is considered a rising star. His coaching path is rooted in player development. He is a communicator and connector, and we look forward to him leading our group.”

Mosely is finally getting his chance after being an assistant coach in the league for 14 years.

Former Denver Nuggets Head Coach George Karl applauded the hire, describing Mosely as “a great communicator and teacher. He’s got a lot of passion, he’s honest and demanding. He’s Old School with New School techniques!”

Karl also compared Mosely to current Phoenix Suns Head Coach Monty Williams.

Mosley is not that inexperienced. He has worked for successful coaches like Karl, Byron Scott and Rick Carlisle during his career.

Mosely has a strong history of player development and had a big hand in getting Mavericks star forward Luka Doncic ready for NBA play. Doncic gave Mosely glowing praise when he took over for Rick Carlisle when he when through COVID-19 protocols.

The Magic await the return of Jonathan Isaac and Markell Fultz from major knee injuries, a slew of young players on the roster, and two draft picks in the top 8 of the upcoming NBA Draft.

Magic standout Jonathan Isaac responded to a text from the Orlando Sentinel, writing, “I’m happy for him. He’s been faithful to the grind and the league for many years,” Isaac texted. “I’m excited to see all the knowledge he’s picked up around the greats and ready to keep moving forward as a team.”

Mosely will be formally announced on July 12th by the Magic.
