MLK, Jr. Asked Us 'What Are You Doing For Others?' Here's How We Answered
In a legacy as profound as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s, one thing is for certain — the civil rights leader lived to help those who needed him most.
“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” King once said to an audience in Montgomery, Alabama in 1957.
In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, HuffPost Impact asked readers: How do you give back?
And the Internet answered.
Here are some of our favorite responses reflecting how readers have chosen to better their communities near and far:

Many of Haiti’s impoverished children are exposed to stress and difficulty at a very young age, especially with limited resources accessible to them when faced with issues such as child labor, exploitation practices, neighborhood violence, and abuse, which often cause developmental delays during their critical years. It was imperative for Sow a Seed to create Project PlayWorld as a safe haven; a place where every child can escape to, have the freedom to imagine, and learn healthy cognitive skills socially, emotionally, and physically. #projectplayworld #sowaseed #whywedowhatwedo #happykids of @prodevhaiti

Carry what you can when you can. Ask for what you need when you need it. Do all the things you promised you would do. And give a little more than you should…Just in case. Happy #givebacktuesday y’all we love helping animals but humans need help too. One of our favorite organizations in our community is Lunches of Love. We help prepare, pack, and deliver lunches to kids in need in our city. If you’d like to help too, please consider volunteering or donating at lunchesoflove.net #givingisbeautiful #togetherwecanendchildhoodhunger

I’ve just finished donating platelets (my 47th donation of blood, plasma or platelets!). It’s an important time of year for the @redcrossau, getting enough donations for the Christmas period. I urge anyone who is able to donate to make an appointment to help them out. #donateblood #redcrossau #Canberra #CBR #redcross #Xmas #donation #plasma #platelets #blood #giving #charity
