Still riding high off the immense success of his debut film Get Out, Jordan Peele will look to bring his magic touch to the small screen when he helps reboot The Twilight Zone. CBS Corp. CEO Leslie Moonves made the announcement during the company’s earnings call on Thursday. The new version will be produced by Peele through his company, Monkeypaw Productions, while Marco Ramirez, who produced the Netflix shows The Defenders and Daredevil, will serve as the showrunner.
The Twilight Zone reboot appears destined to land on the network’s subscription based platform, CBS All Access, which has already experienced some success following the release of Star Trek: Discovery.
The Twilight Zone has seen numerous incarnations since the show originally aired for five seasons on CBS from 1959 to 1964. The first reboot came in the 1980s when the show ran for three seasons. In 2002, the show returned with host Forest Whitaker and lasted for just one season. Five years ago, X-Men producer Bryan Singer brought the cult franchise back once again.
If there’s anyone who can successfully revitalize the franchise, it’s Peele. Similar to Get Out, The Twilight Zone tends to take an innovative approach to tackling a variety of issues, ranging from political to social to everything in between. As the man at the helm of the most profitable film of 2017, Peele has proven that he can turn lemons into liquid gold on a shoestring budget. The famed TV series appears to be in good hands now.
